The LSU Eunice baseball team now knows its opening round opponent in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, set to begin on Thursday afternoon.
The tournament, set for May 16-19 at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Ms., will send its champion to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Ok.
The Bengals, 45-8, are the No. 1 team in the country and will be coming off of a 10-day layoff after seeing their final regular season games at Southern University washed out last weekend.
In the regional tournament, LSU Eunice will be the No. 2 seed.
On Thursday afternoon, the Bengals will open play against Northwest Mississippi Community College (31-16), the No. 3 seed, in a contest set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
East Central Community College (31-19) will be the tournament's No. 1 seed and will face off against host and No. 4 seed Pearl River (39-12) in a 7 p.m. game Thursday night.
The schedule beyond Thursday's games will be determined by game outcomes.
