The LSU Eunice baseball team saw Hinds Community College plate four runs in the top of the ninth inning in the opening round of the Region 23 Tournament, as the Bengals fell 10-9 to slip into the loser's bracket.
With the Bengals (41-12) up three going into the ninth, Hinds (33-18)used a two-run single to cut the lead to one before a two-run homer gave Hinds the lead and the final score.
LSU Eunice finished with 12 hits, including six total from Stefan Trosclair and Sam Walley, who each tallied three hits, with Walley adding an RBI and Trosclair collecting two RBI on his two-run homer in the first inning.
Ray Veit (2 RBIs) and Jordan Romero (RBI, home run) each notched two hits, while David LaFleur (RBI) and Derek Herrington each added one hit.
Starter Chad Reeves did not factor into the decision despite striking out 13 batters in his seven innings, allowing seven hits and five runs (four earned runs) while walking three.
Walley was saddled with the loss after allowing the four runs in the ninth inning.
After seeing Hinds plate a run in the top of the first inning, the Bengals grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first when Trosclair connected on his two-run homer that was followed up by Romero's solo shot moments later.
LSU Eunice pushed the lead to 5-2 after scoring two runs via an error in the bottom of the third before adding two runs in the fifth and sixth frames, using a two-run single by Veit in the fifth and RBI singles by Walley and LaFleur in the sixth.
Hinds cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the eighth to cut the Bengal lead to 9-6 and set up the four-run top of the ninth.
The Bengals now play East Central Community College in an elimination game on Friday at 2 p.m., after East Central fell 6-4 to Jones County Junior College in the other opening round game on Thursday.
