BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Pay raises for baseball coach Paul
Mainieri, football defensive coordinator John Chavis and others are
up for approval next week by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Mainieri, who led the baseball team to a national championship
last year, would get a $100,000 pay raise receiving $625,000 a year
and a new five-year deal.
Chavis would get more annually in a three-year deal paying him
$700,000, not counting postseason bonuses. Chavis' deal is more
than a 50 percent pay raise from his previous $450,000 salary in
his first year at LSU. A new deal was struck last month after
Chavis reportedly entertained offers from the University of
Georgia.
According to LSU, $175,000 of Chavis' annual pay will be
privately funded.
The Advocate reports money for the pay raises comes from revenue
generated by the LSU athletic department.
