School districts across Acadiana have been closed for the last two days because of the icy weather. At least one school district says it banked enough emergency time to prevent it from having to make up those days.
According to Angela Morrison with the Lafayette Parish School Board, the district builds in extra minutes to each school day to build up emergency time. Morrison says Superintendent Pat Cooper and other system officials met on Monday and determined that the district had banked enough time to take Tuesday and Wednesday off without any issues.
When asked if the district banked enough time to take Thursday off, Morrison said she was not sure. The district, she says, anticipated being back in operation on Thursday, so those extra minutes were not factored when district officials decided to cancel Tuesday's and Wednesday's classes.
Morrison says as of now, the Lafayette Parish School System's schools and central office will be open on Thursday.
