A Lafayette grand jury did not find enough evidence to indict a Lafayette Police officer in the shooting death of a man at Campus Crossings on Theatre Drive in December 2011. Quamaine Dwayne Mason, 21, was shot and killed when leaving his girlfriend's apartment. Police said shots were fired at Mason, because he was armed.
State Police investigated the shooting and determined Lafayette Police officers were called to the apartment complex in reference to an armed robbery. As officers arrived, they encountered the suspect exiting the building and was found to be armed. State Police say multiple shots were fired at the suspect.
