LPD Names Suspect For LGMC Parking Garage Robbery

UPDATE: Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have issued an arrest warrant for one count of First Degree Robbery for the arrest of Paul Oren Portalis (27) of Lafayette. Portalis is alleged to have been responsible for the robbery which occurred at the Lafayette General Medical Center parking tower. Portalis was identified as the result of information received from a Crime Stoppers tip.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Paul Portalis is encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have released the below photos of the suspect believed to be responsible for the September 29 attack. Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect in the photos is asked to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

On September 29, 2009, at approximately 5:30 am, an employee of Lafayette General Medical Center parked her vehicle on the 1st floor of the parking garage on Hospital Drive. As the employee walked towards the hospital she was approached by a younger black male wearing a white tank top, blue jeans and carrying a newspaper and shirt. The suspect demanded that the victim, a 54 year old female, turn over her purse to him. When the victim refused, the suspect threatened the victim with bodily harm, alleging he was armed with a gun. The victim continued to refuse the suspects demands at which time the suspect shoved the victim to the ground and stole money from the purse. The suspect was last seen running towards hospital drive. The suspect never revealed a weapon during the ordeal. The victim received minor injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
