Loyola to honor former voice teacher Tortorich

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Alumni Association at Loyola University New Orleans will honor former voice and French diction teacher, Mary Tortorich, at a reunion celebration next month.

The June 9 celebration will begin with an afternoon Mass and continue featuring singing by several of her former students. Later, there will be a reception then a concert by some of her most accomplished singers.

According to Loyola, Tortorich was born on Dec. 8, 1915. She studied voice at Loyola University with the late Elisabeth Wood, and then moved to New York City in pursuit of a vocal career. In 1948, she returned to Loyola to teach voice and French diction for 55 years at Loyola's College of Music and Fine Arts.

She retired in 2003.
