NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Students from New Orleans area high schools who hope to work in journalism are getting a chance to learn and compete this weekend at Loyola University.
Loyola is hosting the Tom Bell Silver Scribe Competition, which is sponsored by the university and the Press Club of New Orleans. The Saturday event includes competitions in a variety of communications-related categories. There are also workshops in news writing, headline and summary writing, layout, photojournalism, visual storytelling and critical review.
It's the 35th annual edition of the Silver Scribe, which is named for the late Tom Bell, a long-time Loyola journalism professor and a former New Orleans Press Club president.
