ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The low bid for twin two-lane bridges
between Alexandria and Pineville came in more than $34 million
below budget.
Jensen Construction Co. of Tulsa, Okla., was the apparent low
bidder Wednesday, when the Louisiana Department of Transportation
and Development opened 16 bids to replace the 74-year-old O.K.
Allen Bridge.
The Town Talk reports that Jensen's bid was $82.6 million for
the bridges and approaches. The department had estimated costs at
more than $114 million.
Officials say the new twin spans could be open by early 2014.
Department engineer-administrator Nick Verrett says reviewing
bids could take several weeks. If there are irregularities, the
contract could go to the next-lowest bidder - Gilchrist
Construction Co. of Alexandria, at $86.6 million.
