LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team will close out five weeks of practice on Saturday when it holds its annual Red-White Spring Game at noon at Cajun Field.
Admission to the event is free. Fans attending the final workout are encouraged to enter the Cajun Field lots through Gates 1 and 2 along Bertrand Dr., and Gate 3 on Congress St. Parking in the north and west lots of Cajun Field will be available with tailgating areas open on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to construction on the south end zone, all fans attending are asked to enter Cajun Field through the northwest entrance at Gate C.
Schedule cards for the 2014 season and a limited number of New Orleans Bowl commemorative posters will be available. Fans will be able to have their picture taken with Miss UL, Kimberly Newville, during the game and the Ragin' Cajuns will be available for photos on the field after. During the game, children will be able to participate in a Kid's Zone with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority providing face painting.
The Student Leadership Council will be collecting new and slightly used children's books as part of their campaign to spread the joy of reading to future generations.
The game will also give fans a chance to interact with head coach Mark Hudspeth on Twitter by asking questions concerning the Red-White game. Fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #ULSpringGame14.
With several players battling nagging injuries, Saturday's format will be modified from a normal scrimmage with the offense and defense scoring points through a variety of situations.
Points will be distributed to both sides through the kicking game with Hunter Stover and Steven Brauchle competing in extra point and field goal situations, and in a "pooch punt" session where Brauchle will compete with returning punter Daniel Cadona.
In the scrimmage portion, normal scoring for touchdowns will be awarded to both sides with the Ragin' Cajuns defense awarded an additional five points for a turnover and three points for a three-and-out.
Both sides will also compete for points in an Oklahoma drill that will take place along the sidelines in front of the Ragin' Cajuns bench.
Louisiana, which posted its third consecutive 9-4 season that was capped by a victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, will open its 2014 season on Aug. 30 when it plays host to Southern University.
Season tickets are available by calling the UL Ticket Office at (337) 265-2357. The deadline to renew tickets for current season ticket holders is Wednesday (April 16).
