BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana is getting ready to begin a new series of tag-and-release saltwater fishing tournaments.
It's for two-person teams in boats that are at least 15 feet long and have live wells; redfish caught will be tagged by people from the Aquarium of the Americas.
Five tournaments between March 6 and Sept. 11 - at Lafitte, Dularge, Delacroix, Empire and Slidell - will have $200 entry fees.
Teams that participate or pay entry fees for at least three of those events will qualify for the championship, which has a money prize - a percentage of all earlier entry fees.
Randy Pausina, assistant secretary of Wildlife and Fisheries, says it will help collect critical data for state and university biologists.
