Press Release from State Troop I:

With the fast approaching holiday season, troopers want to remind you to stay safe on the roads. Troopers will set out to make this holiday season the safest in years. In order to keep you and your family safe during this busy travel season, troopers will be out enforcing all Louisiana Laws.

So far this year, troopers with Troop I have investigated 52 fatal crashes in which 58 people have been killed. While this represents a 15% decrease from last year, we are continuing to emphasize our enforcement efforts, high visibility patrol, and ongoing educational efforts.

Through their enforcement efforts, troopers have arrested over 1,600 impaired drivers, of these arrests the DWI Task Force has accounted for 25% of the total number of arrests in the troop. Troopers have also issued over 10,400 citations for seatbelt violations. Troopers have stepped up their educational efforts by visiting area schools, businesses, and public functions to increase public awareness of the importance of safe driving. Troopers also credit the media for their assistance in getting our message to the public. Thanks to the Louisiana Legislature, over the last year Troop I has seen an increase in the number of troopers on the road.

Louisiana State Police Troop I wants you to stay safe this holiday season. Troopers remind you to buckle up, and designate a driver.
