BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - For the past year, the coroner's office
in Louisiana's capital has had to send bodies to Lafayette or hire
local pathologists to autopsy them.
But now it has a local pathologist - Dr. Bruce Waimer - on
contract through Louisiana Forensics.
Dr. Shannon Cooper, the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner, says
Waimer moved to the Baton Rouge area in July after being hired by
the company. The previous pathologist had retired in July 2009.
Cooper says there could be more than 230 autopsies in the parish
this year. She says sending bodies to Lafayette meant that police
and sheriff's deputies had to go there to collaborate on the
autopsies.
