Louisiana National Guard Gen. Basilica retires

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Army Maj. Gen. John P. Basilica Jr. of Baton Rouge has retired from the Louisiana National Guard after 33 years of military service.
His retirement ceremony was Friday at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans.
Basilica is vice president and gulf coast district leader for HNTB Corporation, a national architectural engineering firm.
He served 10 years in the active Army before moving to Louisiana.
Commissioned in 1978, Basilica has served in numerous commands in the active Army, Reserve and National Guard, most recently as the commander of Operational Command Post (hash)1 at U.S. Army North (5th US Army), Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. In 2004, Basilica commanded the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team while mobilized for 18 months in Iraq.
