NEW ORLEANS (AP) Louisiana's labor department says the state's nonfarm workforce fell by 4,600 jobs in December, with 2,300 of those jobs in the sector for trade, transportation and utilities.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission estimates employment at 1.9 million, on a nonseasonally adjusted basis.
For the year, from December 2008, the agency says the state lost 47,100 jobs.
Last month, Louisiana's preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate registered at 7.5 percent, up from the November revised rate of 6.7 percent but below the national average of 10 percent.
