BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Three of Louisiana's congressmen remain
unopposed for their fall elections as the candidate sign-up period
enters its final day.
Candidates must file their paperwork and pay their registration
fees by 5 p.m. Friday to run in the upcoming election.
Republican U.S. Reps. Steve Scalise of Jefferson, Bill Cassidy
of Baton Rouge and Charles Boustany of Lafayette have yet to
attract challengers.
The congressional primary election is Aug. 28. The general
election is Nov. 2.
Six of Louisiana's seven congressmen are seeking re-election.
The seventh, Democrat Charlie Melancon, is leaving his House seat
to run against Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter, who is seeking a
second term.
