BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A recent state audit accuses the state Department of Public Safety and Corrections of losing track of $1.5 million in property.
Officials agreed with the audit's findings
at first but said that they have located most of what was missing after looking around a little bit.
Louisiana State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson said Tuesday items were listed on the department's inventory that should not have been, such as computers allegedly stolen by a former worker.
He said police radios remained on the inventory long after they had broken and been taken apart for parts.
State police spokesman Lt. Doug Cain said the agency has located all but about $400,000 of the $1.5 million in property cited in the audit.
