Louisiana 1st-time jobless claims increase

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending July 16 increased from the previous week's total.
The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims increased to 4,398 from the previous week's total of 4,053. The figure was lower than it was for the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 5,237 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 4,106 from the previous week's total of 4,048.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending July 16 totaled 48,364, an increase from 47,247 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 47,619 from 47,316.
