A 44-year-old Loranger man who formerly donated blood is now in need of it.
The Blood Center and Humble Hearts and Helping Hands of Independence are holding a blood drive Saturday for Ron Harper Sr.
He was diagnosed in March with multiple myeloma (my-uh-LOH-muh). That's a form of cancer in which abnormal cells collect in bone marrow, ultimately leading to formation of tumors.
Suzy Potter, spokeswoman for The Blood Center, says treatment requires many transfusions as well as radiation and chemotherapy.
Harper's wife, Charley Harper, says her husband used to be a member of the Loranger Volunteer Fire Department.
The blood drive will be held at the Loranger fire station on Louisiana Highway 40.
