Longtime Vermilion Parish School Board member Bill Searle has died. Searle, who was in 80s, was always a champion for the underdog, former Superintendent Randy Schexnayder said. "He's one of the people that had the utmost integrity that you could ever ask for," Schexnayder said. Searle was a retired school bus driver and could often be seen at school events - athletics, band, 4-H and many other events. "He worked hard for the kids and especially the support staff," Schexnayder said.
Searle resigned from the board within the past year. On the Vermilion Parish School Board website, Searle said, "There are a number of things that stand out of which I am very proud." He goes on to mention the Daniel Dartez Trust Fund and the construction of the new LeBlanc Elementary School. "I have had the pleasure of attending the Special Arts Program each year and it has been very rewarding. The two multi- purpose buildings at Kaplan Elementary and Jesse Owens Elementary have been a real plus as well," he said.
Funeral services for Mr. Searle are pending.
