The Lafayette Police Department is mourning the death of a man who spent the last 15 years as a crossing guard protecting Lafayette's school children.
Joseph Malveaux, Sr., 77, passed away in Lafayette on Oct. 9. Malveaux had been employed as a school crossing guard since August, 1998, with his last assignment being at L.J. Alleman Middle School.
In a statement Friday, Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft and the employees of the Lafayette Police Department sent their condolences to the Malveaux family, saying Malveaux was respected by his peers and the children he served.
Malveaux will be laid to rest this Saturday at 11:00 am, at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Church with Kinchen Funeral Home handling final arrangements.
