A uniquely constructed and locally made offshore living quarters is being shipped to Russia thanks to Broussard-based company.
LQT Industries, which also has facilities in both New Iberia and in Lake Charles, was commissioned to build the 96-man living quarters camp according to Russian certifications that mandate that the building be able to meet temperatures ranging from 84 degrees F to -40 degrees F .
A first of its kind built in this area, spokesperson Marty Goutierrez said in a release, the structure also meets the standards of the United States Coast Guard as well as "ABS fire and blast requirements for offshore oilfield living quarters." According to the company's website, its Broussard facility "has multiple warehouses to serve as maintenance center for all offshore/onshore rental equipment in addition to "10 acres of hard ground for storage of all rental equipment."
"We will be shipping the camp Friday," Goutierrez said.
