The Livingston Parish School Board has voted to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with the parish sheriff's office for school resource officers.
The Advocate reports Thursday's agreement, which will be signed by Superintendent John Watson and Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard, calls for the school board to reimburse the sheriff's office about $212,500 each year. The figure represents one-half of the annual cost of five deputies.
School resource officers may be police officers or deputies assigned to specific schools in a district. The officers will begin work on campuses in August.
