Livingston board agrees to buy land for school

The Livingston Parish School Board has agreed to purchase 9.5 acres next to Live Oak High School in Watson for expanded parking and sports facilities.

The Advocate reports the land, consisting of two tracts, has a combined estimated market value of $553,000.

School Board member Kellee Dickerson, who represents the Watson area, said Thursday the existing parking on the Live Oak High campus is enough for the school's day-to-day needs, but ball games and other events that draw overflow crowds often find people parking along La. 16.

Dickerson said the district will use an acre or two for parking, utilizing limestone or paving as necessary depending on the ground conditions. The remainder of the property could be used for a future expansion of the campus sports complex.
