COVINGTON, La. (AP) - Covington police say they found seven bags
of marijuana in the pocket of a man who was arrested for littering
after ignoring an officer's orders to pick up a dropped cigarette
wrapper and to stop.
Capt. Jack West, a police spokesman, said 52-year-old Larry
Brown, of Covington, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
He says the charges were littering, resisting arrest, violating a
drug-free zone and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute.
He said the arrest occurred as officers were clearing people out
of a convenience store parking lot Sunday morning.
West says that after ignoring the order to pick up a wrapper
from a pack of cigarettes, Brown also allegedly ignored an order to
wait for arrest by a patrol car, and had to be physically
restrained from leaving.
