Lightning hits assisted living facility

COVINGTON, La. (AP) - An employee at a Covington-area assisted living facility is being credited with preventing a major fire after lightning struck the building.

A news release from fire officials in St. Tammany Parish says that Kory Buras, an employee of Village in the Oaks retirement community and assisted living facility saw lightning strike the building as he was leaving work Wednesday afternoon.

Buras quickly ran back into the structure, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and rushed to the attic while calling 911. As firefighters from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 12 responded, Buras extinguished a fire in the attic. There were no injuries reported.
