Plaqemines Parish President, Billy Nungesser announced Monday that he's running for lieutenant governor, which is also the same day Louisiana's current lieutenant governor, Jay Dardenne's camp released an automated voice message of Nungesser endorsing Dardenne back in November.
The automated phone message sent to voters was about eight months ago.
Nungesser says his endorsement was a big mistake.
"He's not the guy for the job. In the runoff I was asked to support him because i'm republican, everybody makes mistakes," said Nungesser.
Nungesser decided to run for lieutenant governor after discovering that money from the BP Oil Spill was spread throughout the state instead of given to the parishes affected the most.
"I was outraged when everybody got a check," said Nungesser.
Dardenne responds by saying the plans regarding money from BP was before his time.
"He's knows good and well the decision was made before I took office."
Election day is October 22nd.
