Library progress begins to show downtown

Reconstruction efforts are well underway at the Main Library in downtown Lafayette.

The project, which began in 2011, entails a complete renovation of the 40-year-old building and the removal of asbestos from the structure.

The refurbished library will have a children's storytelling room, a meeting room, study rooms on each floor and a genealogy and local history room.

The public areas will span three floors and will include books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, video games and public computers.

The library is slated to reopen in late 2014.
