Inside the Cajundome, sponsors are prepping for tomorrow's twelfth annual 'Games of Acadiana', and they're looking forward to a great weekend.
Lacey Shelton, Community Liason for Miles Perret Cancer Services believes there's many reasons that families should stop by the Cajundome this weekend, saying, "number one, you get A.C. that's always fantastic this time of year. But really we have over 60 games and activities for people to come and play from. we have areas for all ages, we have areas just for smaller children. we have a life sized angry birds game that we're trying out this year that we're really excited about".
These games 'began', however, far earlier the center behind it.
Shelton recounted the history of the games by saying, "the first games were held even before miles perret cancer services was even open, and it was so successful that that's what allowed miles perret cancer services to even open."
without the games, Miles Perret Cancer Services wouldn't be what it is today.
The games started in 2001...the center, a year later, when the family of Miles Perret wanted to create a place for all cancer patients to feel at home.....including the women of 'Milesy Mart', all cancer survivors, who've come together thanks to Miles Perret.
Martha Fatlerman, a cancer survivor herself, says of Miles Perret Cancer Services, "I think you will meet the most true people you have ever met in your life...because one thing cancer teaches you is that you can be loaded, or you can be dirt poor, and it hits everybody the same."
