BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Public school students in Louisiana are getting ready to take standardized tests. Beginning Tuesday, fourth- and eighth-grade students participate in the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program exam, better known as the LEAP test. It determines whether they are promoted to the next grade level.
Students in grades ten and eleven must pass Louisiana's Graduation Exit Examination to earn a standard diploma. Students in third, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth grades participate in the Integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program test, which is designed to measure student progress, but does not determine whether students will be promoted.
