BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reminds people that it has a 24-hour litterbug hotline to report people throwing trash from a vehicle, trash blowing out of a pickup truck bed, or illegal trash or dump sites.
Vehicular reports should include the road location and vehicle's make, model and color.
The number is 1-888-LITRBUG - 1-888-548-7284.
Col. Winton Vidrine of the Enforcement Division says all tips are investigated. Callers can be anonymous.
Litter convictions bring up to $1,000 in fines and eight hours picking up trash. Dumping violations can carry more penalties and higher fines.
The department has gotten 474 hotline calls since June 1 - about one-quarter from East Baton Rouge Parish and about 13 percent from St. Tammany Parish.
