The most important part of Lafayette City-Parish Government's comprehensive plan is your input.
LCG officials want this to be the people's plan.
"I think we need more school bus stops for the children."
"More bike paths."
"More pedestrian friendly streets."
Just a few suggestions from residents for improving Lafayette.
"The more they participate the more this becomes the collective vision of the community."
City-Parish President Joey Durel says the plan for growing and developing Lafayette will be primarily based on people's opinions and ideas.
"If this doesn't become a plan that is of the people then it runs the risk of becoming the proverbial plan on a shelf that never gets implemented."
At the rate Lafayette is growing, Durel says hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent to support that growth.
"We might as well do what we can to spend it as efficiently as possible."
This will be the first in a series of meetings taking place over the next 18 months. Once discussions are finished, a plan will be drafted based on suggestions.
The plan only applies to the City of Lafayette and any un-incorporated towns in the parish. Durel says he offered to include incorporated cities in the parish, but they all declined.
