LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Lake Charles city councilman wants to see an abandoned building torn down.
The American Press reports Marshall Simien is sponsoring a resolution asking Pinnacle Entertainment to demolish old hotel it gave the city, leaving the parking garage to remain upright.
The city was given the 9-acre parcel of land after Hurricane Rita forced the closure of a gaming and hotel complex on the site in 2005.
Mayor Randy Roach said consultants examined the parking garage and found it "structurally sound."
Councilman Stuart Weatherford asked the Roach administration to contact the companies that showed interest in the property and tell them the building is going to be torn down.
