Lawsuit Settled-New Iberia Deputy Used Excessive Force

NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office has
settled a federal lawsuit filed by an Iberia Parish man who claimed
a deputy used excessive force during a July 2008 incident in New
Iberia.
Nelton Guillory filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit in April
2009 against Deputy Bryan Dugal and Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis
Ackal.
Terms of the settlement were not released Thursday.
Lt. Ryan Turner, spokesman for the sheriff's office, tells The
Advocate that the settlement was signed under a confidentiality
agreement and paid by the department's insurance company.
The suit stated that Dugal allegedly handcuffed Guillory, pulled
his hands above his head and kicked him in the shin area, which
caused Guillory to land on his head on the concrete.
