BASTROP, La. (AP) - A lawsuit filed by a Bastrop resident alleging the city's police department has failed to adequately perform its duties in his neighborhood for the past 15 years has been dismissed.
The lawsuit was filed earlier this month by attorney Jack Wright Jr. on behalf of resident James Murphy. The suit alleged the city of Bastrop and police department failed to establish police patrols, investigate crimes and issue citations in the McFee neighborhood.
Bastrop city attorney Doug Lawrence filed for a motion to dismiss the case on the grounds that there is no state law that legitimizes Murphy's request.
Wright told The News-Star the goal of the lawsuit was to get the attention of the local law enforcement.
