BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana lawmakers are spending nearly $70,000 in taxpayer funds to attend conferences this summer in New Orleans, Memphis and San Antonio.
The Advocate says that, according to legislative records, about two-thirds of the money will be spent in-state as 31 legislators attend the American Legislative Exchange Council's meeting next week in New Orleans. State Rep. Noble Ellington, of Winnsboro, is national chairman of the conservative organization.
Other dollars covered the Southern Legislative Conference last week in Memphis and the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting in two weeks in San Antonio.
The spending covers travel, hotel, conference registrations and the $152 a day legislators get while on business related to their office.
