Latham Dead After Shoot-Out

According to State Police, the hunt for Jonathan Latham has ended in a shoot-out.

The 34-year-old was shot at a home near Breaux Bridge late Friday, following attacks in Iberia and Vermilion parishes.

State Police spokesman Sgt. David Anderson said St. Martin Parish deputies went to the home after receiving a tip that a car stolen from a victim's residence had been spotted there.

Authorities have not determined whether Latham shot himself or was hit by abullet fired by St. Martin Parish sheriff's deputies.

Latham was wanted for cutting a 17-year old boy on the neck in Vermilion Parish. He was not seriously hurt in the Thursday incident.

Police say that attack was followed by another at a Coteau home early Friday where 78-year-old Oscar Figueroa was killed and an11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and beaten.
