NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Mayor Mitch Landrieu says New Orleans is about to begin stepped up enforcement of laws against littering, illegal dumping and illegal signs or posters.
The move comes as the city prepares to host major sporting events over the next 18 months.
The stepped up enforcement officially starts Monday, Sept. 12. Until then, the city is instituting an amnesty period, giving individuals and businesses time to clean up without facing fines.
After that, the city will dispatch teams of employees to document and remove illegal material and assess fines.
