WASHINGTON - On Veterans Day, United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., commemorated the brave men and women who served their country in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Sen. Landrieu said:
"Throughout our nation's history, our soldiers, sailors and airmen have stood up and beaten back the advances of tyranny and oppression at home and abroad. That legacy is carried on today by the tens of thousands of American troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and across the globe.
"We can never truly repay our veterans for their courageous and honorable service. But, we can honor them by increasing our state and federal budgets to ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need and so richly deserve when they return from the frontlines. That's why I am continuing to work to improve health care, housing and child care for America's veterans.
"Today is a day to commemorate the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to defend freedom and democracy around the world. Let every day serve as an opportunity for us to give back to them what they have so willingly given to us."
