NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says a proposed comprehensive zoning ordinance will play an important role as the city rebuilds, and he has announced a series of public meetings throughout the city to get residents' opinions about the document.
The meetings start Monday and will be held in various neighborhoods over the following two weeks. Zoning rules determine where new development can take place and govern details such as the height and size of buildings.
The meetings announced by Landrieu will include a 30 minute presentation on the draft ordinance. People attending will be able to look at the text and accompanying maps. They also will have a chance to meet with city planners and submit written comments.
