A Lafayette man facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son will be tried on rape charges next September.
The date was set during a pre-trial hearing Thursday for Landon Broussard, 22, on a charge of aggravated rape of a person under the age of 13. Broussard is accused of sexually assaulting 3-year-old Julian Madera, the son of his girlfriend Laura Smith, in November 2012.
He is scheduled to be tried on the aggravated rape charge on Sept. 29, 2014.
Broussard is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a litany of charges, ranging from first-degree murder, aggravated rape of a person under 13 and domestic abuse battery to contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, simple battery, robbery and possession of synthetic marijuana.
His next court date, a pre-trial hearing on the first-degree murder charge in Madera's death, is scheduled for Sept. 23.
