ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Loren Lampert will make $100,000 per year to be the chief of the Alexandria Police Department.
Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy said the base salary of $100,000 came "upon recommendation of senior staff."
The Town Talk reports the approved police chief salary in the city's 2011-12 fiscal year budget is $85,000, and city officials have not yet provided information about how Lampert's salary would be supplemented.
Roger Tully, the police chief prior to Lampert, was paid $85,000 a year. Daren Coutee, who was chief for six years prior to retiring in January 2010, was making $90,385 a year before his retirement.
Ed Larvadain III, the chairman of the City Council's Finance Committee, said he was concerned about Lampert's salary because the city remains in a "financial crunch."
