Lake Charles shows drop in crime

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Overall, crime is down in Lake Charles. That's according to numbers released Thursday by the police department.

Criminal offenses reported were down 3 percent and arrests were down 8 percent, according to the department's 2012 crime report.

Although murder, rape and robbery numbers were up, assault and battery numbers were down, helping to bring the overall numbers of crimes against persons down 5 percent.

Chief Don Dixon told the American Press he was pleased that the overall numbers were down even though the department is 26 officers down. The department has just hired 12 officers.
