A Lake Charles woman has been arrested for child desertion after she left her children home alone.
Lake Charles Police Department Spokesperson Mike Kraus says on April 16, 2013 at 9:53 a.m., Lake Charles Police Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of 2nd Street in reference to children being left unattended.
Deputies say a witness was flagged down in the complex in reference to a small child in a white t-shirt outside with no supervision. Corporal J. Wall entered the residence and observed 2 juveniles home alone. One appeared to be 3-4 years old and the second child 1-year-old. The older child had on a white t-shirt and nothing else; he was eating chips from off the floor stated the deputy. Authorites say the younger child was wearing a multi colored shirt and a soiled diaper that had not been changed recently. Child protection was then requested.
Deputies say At 11:00 a.m., the children's mother, Octavia Pichon, returned home. Upon Octavia's return, she stated that she left the children home because they were asleep stated deputies. Cpl Wall and Corporal E. Choi later learned that Ms. Pichon left her home prior to 6:45 a.m.
Octavia Pichon was arrested for Child Desertion and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. The children were turned over to Child Protection.
