Deputies arrested a man Saturday on a variety of charges after he allegedly violated a protective order while holding a woman against her will at her own home.
The incident happened around midnight, when Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call of kidnapping and discovered Joseph R. Ward, 29, 1416 Clover Dr., Lake Charles, who was alleged to have taken an ex-acquaintance against her will in her own vehicle, battering her with his fists and driving her back to her own house. While at the victim's house, Ward allegedly held a knife to her throat and held her overnight against her will. Ward reportedly held onto her cell phone despite releasing her the next day.
On Saturday, August 9 around midnight the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a kidnapping. Detectives learned Joseph R. Ward, 29, 1416 Clover Dr., Lake Charles, took an ex-acquaintance against her will in her car. He battered her with his fists and threatened to kill her numerous times. Ward eventually drove the victim to her house where he continued to hold her against her will overnight. While at the residence, he held a knife to her throat. Ward released the victim the next day but would not return her cell phone.
A warrant was issued for Ward, who had an active restraining order against him at the time of the incident. He was booked on charges of 2nd degree kidnapping, aggravated assault, simple battery, theft, and violation of protective order. Bond was set at $357,000.
