Lake Charles Mail Heads to Lafayette

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Starting Monday, mail to and from Lake
Charles will be processed in Lafayette.
Postal Service spokesman McKinney Boyd tells The American-Press
that nobody will lose jobs. He says workers will be asked to look
at vacancies at other post offices nearby and in Lafayette.
Boyd says Lafayette's processing plant is larger and more
automated than the one in Lake Charles, so the move will improve
service.
He says the move is part of national restructuring.
The Postal Service said Friday it lost $8.5 billion last year
despite cutting more than 100,000 jobs and other reductions in
recent years.
