LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Lake Charles firefighters turn down
what the City Council calls its last, best offer for a one-year
contract.
Firefighters Association Local 561 president Wil Veuleman tells
The American Press that firefighters will stay on the job.
City administrator John Cardone says a major sticking point in
Thursday's vote was the city's decision that vacation time cannot
be paid at overtime rates.
He says another is a city policy requiring a doctor's excuse for
employees who have already had more than two unexcused sick days in
a contract year, and a third is about vacation time for workers
with less than five years of experience.
