LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach's administration is gearing up for another year of closely watching how every nickel and dime is spent. The American Press reports the administration is proposing a budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year that will include a $2.5 million deficit. As with past years, the city's biggest expense will be personnel and benefit packages. City council members will decide if they want to approve the new budget Tuesday during a special meeting. The new fiscal year will begin Oct. 1 and end Sept. 30, 2013. City officials projected a $2.9 million deficit for the 2011-2012 budget. It is expected that the deficit will end up being $1.3 million.
