Lake Charles couple booked with child cruelty

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Authorities say a Lake Charles couple has been arrested after deputies found two young children wandering the street alone while the couple slept in their home.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers says 30-year-old Brent J. Nelson and 25-year-old Carrie D. Hoffpauir were arrested on Sunday.
Myers says Nelson and Hoffpauir were booked with two counts of cruelty to a juvenile and two counts of child desertion.
She says the children were removed from the home and placed with family members.
No bonds have been set in the case.
It was unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
