LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The Lake Charles City Council has approved annexing 277.4 acres of land located off of La. Highway 14.
According to developers from Lafayette, the land is going to be used for the construction of a subdivision called Morganfield Development.
River Ranch Development Co., based in Lafayette, is overseeing the project. Company spokesman Robert Daigle told the city council Wednesday that 1,000 residential units will be constructed.
The American Press reports an architect from Baton Rouge will design the homes using smart growth principles.
